QuestionHI, i have a recently purchased (used) well taken care of. 2005 CADILLAC DEVILLE BASE V8 NORTHSTAR,.........AND IT HAS RAN GREAT FOR AT LEAST 8 MONTHS............. THE OTHER NIGHT I WENT TO LEAVE A FRIENDS HOUSE AND START THE CAR AS NORMAL....AND THE BATTERY ( CAR ) MADE A SLIGHT CLICKING NOISE....AND WOULD NOT START OR TURN OVER..... I THEN JUST PROCEEDED TO THINK I HAD LEFT SOMETHING ON OR OPENED WHILE I WAS HAVING DINNER......SO WE GO GET THE JUMPER CABLES............AND IT TOOK ABOUT FIVE MINUTES TO JUMP AND ACTUALLY RE-CHARGE..... EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A ABSOLUTE CASE OF "OCD" OBSESSED WITH MAKING SURE NOTHING WAS ON.... ANYWAY. IT RE-STARTS.. AND THOUGHT PROBLEM WAS FIXED,........ONLY BEING MAYBE ABOUT EIGHT - TEN MINUTES FROM HOME.AS I NEARED THE HALF WAY HOME MARK......ALL OF MY "DIGITAL DASH" WENT TOTALLY PSYCHO !!! ALL MY READING WHICH ARE ALL DIGITAL....WERE GOING TOTALLY BONKERS.................^&%%^$#@#!$$^&*............. LIKE NO READINGS AT ALL,............. NO GAS READING, SPEEDOMETER READING........... WELL THEY WERE ALL LIT UP STILL AND IN THE TOTALLY WRONG MEASURES, ORDERS,................ AND THEN I GET OUT OF THE CAR,...... AND WAS JUST LUCKY I FELT TO HAD MADE IT HOME................. LONG STORY SHORT........IT ALL ENDS WITH "SECURITY" LIGHT FLASHING CONSTANTLY..............AND NO DASH READINGS............. AND WILL NOT START?!?!?! WHAT TO DO ........ I CANT AFFORD TO EVEN FIX THIS KINDA CAR........... I AM HOPING WITH ALL OF YOUR EXPERTISE............ YOU CAN HELP.... I have lots of bad news. The worst thing tat you could ever have is the optional factory alarm. They are more trouble than they are worth. The factory junk works so well that a thief can be driving with the horn blaring and the lights flashing. In other words, there is no security at all. Worst, is that no one including the dealer wanted to work on them new! You are stuck with 18 year old technology!
You definitely have an electrical issue going on here and I really don't know if I can assist you due to logistics. Something like this requires me to be at the vehicle.
The first thing that has to be done is to remove the negative cable from the battery at the frame. Once removed, grind or file the frame to a nice bare metal condition and reattach the ground at the frame.
Now, we are going to look for a parasitic draw. Get a test light. Remove the positive cable from the battery. Attach he light between the cable and the battery post. If the light is on, you have a draw draining the battery. In this case, remove and replace fuses one at a time (this vehicle has more than one fuse panel)until the test light goes out. That will be your problem circuit. In order to know what is on the circuit, I recommend purchasing a 1995 Cadillac service manual from Ebay.
The cluster could be a bad connection at the firewall bulk head. All that requires is to remove the bolt and pull the connector and spray with electrical cleaner and reattach. This could also be a cluster problem.
The security light is not going to affect starting if you hear a click. The way the VATS and the factory alarm (yes, you have two separate and distinct factory security junk items you have in this car), there will be no clicking, only silence when trying to start the engine.
As for the remote, that can be reprogrammed by the instructions in the owner's manual. You could have a bad starter.
There is just too much here to successfully assist you on the web.
NEVER take this car to a dealer. You might try some larger repair shop with the equipment to diagnose these problems. Someone needs to be at the car to see what it takes to fix it.
