QuestionWould it be easy for someone to change the EGR Valve on a 1997 Cadillac Deville? I have spent so much money on this car taking it to the shop. I was wondering if this was something I could do myself?.

My first question is, do you know for sure that the EGR valve is bad, or is that what you think is bad?
It has been far too long since I worked on one of these to give you an accurate answer as to the effort required to change the egr in your car. However, I hope you will find the information i suggest will assist you in this and any other future problems that come up, so you ren't payin all that money to the garage.
So many people find a code that will give the false premise the a specific part is bad, when in fact it is something else. Then you still have the problem and less money. Many of garages and dealers as well guess at fixing vehicles. They are too reliant on codes and what a computer will tell them, in turn costing the consumer lots of dollars.
I would recommend going on Ebay or Craigs and obtaining the 1997 Cadillac Deville factory service manual, that not only spells out exactly what is entailed to not only replacing the EGR, but everything else in the car. The manual has simple to follow diagnostic charts for any repair or replacement you need to do. Many projects, you would be surprised how easy they are to fix with the correct tool-the service manual for the car and you should be able to get one for less than 50 bucks!
The next time you go to the mechanic, you can tell him what is wrong and just to replace the part, if you decided you did not want to tackle that.
Its very common to see where people are guessing at the solution, and it is even more common for replacing the component not to be the problem.
