Cadillac Repair: Driver side mirror, auto theft claim denied on purported forensics for key of the proper type

Question
Hi Rob,
I have a 1998 cadillac. Someone push the driver side mirror backward in the parking lot.
It is now loss and I can't find any screws so that I can tighten it. Do I need to remove the side panel, inside the car to fix it? Can I fix it myself or do I need to go to a dealer?
Dana

Answer
Hello,

Since I am not looking at that specific door, I do not know what is entailed to replace the mirror. Most require removal of the trim panel in order to remove the nuts from the studs.
Some are easier to change than others, but you will probably have to remove the trim panel.
NEVER go to a dealer to do this. The local body shop is capable for a lot less money.

Try to go to Ebay and see if you can get an aftermarket assembly or possibly used.
If it needs to be pained, you can scuff and mask. Prime and get a spray can of paint from a parts store. Its not a large component and you should be capable of painting.

Good luck!
