Question
QUESTION: My car won't start all the time the lights work and the radio works.  It will start for 3 days and then at random it happens again. The alt and starter are good. I bought a new batt and it just drains it when its not starting . What could it b?  please help the best way you can.

ANSWER: Hello,

You are giving me two different symptoms. Does the battery drain and need to be jumped, or do you have full power at all times and the engine won't start. Either I can assist you on. I just need to know what exactly is going on.

QUESTION: Sometimes it will start for a few days then at random nothing. But if I keep trying to turn it over it will start(sometimes) . I don't know what it could be everything else works. If I go and push the relay under the hood it will try and crank but not turnover and stay.

ANSWER: Hi,

Not sure, but may have a terminology issue here. I have no idea of what relay your are playing with, but it has nothing to do with starting the engine.

OK, crank and turn over is when the engine is spinning. If it is not spinning, it is not cranking or turning over. If it's dead, its dead. I need to know that.

You say the alternator and starter is good. How do you know? From parts people trying to play mechanics?

If the engine is spinning, does it start and run?

There are treasons I am asking these questions.

QUESTION: When I try and crank it with the key it makes a clicking noise but no engin spining.  But I click the starter relay it spends but doesn't stay crunk

Answer
Hello,

This is good and I now understand your situation. Now, I don't know who told you the starter is good or how it was determined, but this problem is one of two things. Either a bad starter solenoid or a connection issue at the starter, but I would opt for the solenoid. You can have a good starter, but a bad solenoid not allowing the engine to crank.
The solenoid when working causes the starter gear that mates with the flywheel to spin and also causes the starter gear to go forward and backward to engage the flywheel. The solenoid on this car should; be integral with the starter.

When you were asking around about your problem, did you describe the clicking and nothing happening?

Change out the starter and you will be driving happily down the road again with reliability.

The reason I wanted you to be specific in your description is because all Cadillacs except for a couple models are plagued with a constant problem of a no start condition  with their antiquated problematic junk anti theft system with that ugly resistor in the ignition key blade.

That no start condition causes nothing to happen including no click. That is the reason for explaining the exact issue.

You will find my answer correct and precise. All you need to do is go to the parts store and yell them you have a bad starter solenoid. The problem is only going to get worse if you don't fix it and someday the engine car will leave you stranded for good.

Good Luck!
