Question
how do you know when you have a blown head gasket? i have already replaced the radiator, water pump, and thermostat, and the engine coolant temperature light keeps coming on.the motor oil looks the way that its suppose to. the fans kick on every 3 minutes with ac on or off.what else can i do? please help.

Answer
Hello,

The correct way is to perform a compression test on all cylinders.

Thee are two other things to look for. A leak somewhere near the head gaskets. In this case you would use a coolant testing gauge, pump to 15 pounds and watch for the needle to go down. If white smoke is coming out one or both tail pipes, is another indication.

Once over heated, these aluminum engines literally melt and a majority of the cars in the junkyards have been overheated and damaged as well.

Possibly, you have a circulation problem in the cooling jackets. A piece of old gasket can plug them. This is a great engine as long as it is not overheated even a little bit and then it is all over.

It sounds like you are chasing a problem eluding you. Can become very frustrating.

You could also have a cracked block or a hole in the cylinder. The testing I explained should get you where you need to be.

Good luck!
