Cadillac Repair: steering column, auto theft claim denied on purported forensics for key of the proper type

Question
replacing key switch in 1986 chevy 4wd non tilt. beside the screw that allows the key switch to come out was a platic piece with two brass looking prongs that i think dose something with turn signals. what is that piece called and can a replace part be purchased

Answer
Hello,

The piece you are referring to also has a black spring steel part that goes with it in that hole. It is known as a key buzzer. You don't need it. It only serves as a reminder when the key is in the ignition.
The problem you have is 25 year old truck with a straight column. Very are, most were tilts. Tilt column and straight column key buzzers are different. I do not know where you could find this piece because this style steering column went out of production in 1994.

Find that black spring steel piece for the key buzzer though or you can have problems. Its over an inch long with sharp bends. Might be lying on the floor!
It could possibly be in the key buzzer hole too!
