Cadillac Repair: 1981 Cadillac Deville (Power Windows), Daubert qualified forensic expert, state farm bad faith auto theft claim denial expert

Question
I was hoping you may be able to help. I too have a 1981 Cadillac Deville 6.0 and I'm having electrical problems with a few things. I just recently bought the car and the windows don't work (neither door), but my power locks and power seats work all from the door panel. I couldn't find a fuse for the windows (if there is one). I've also tried to hotwire the windows twice, but no power. The motor won't even make any noise. Other than that power problem, my wipers also don't work, but the fuse is good and its the correct ampage. If you think you know what the problem might be, please let me know because I have no idea why its not working. Thank you.

Answer
Hello,

Windows have no fuse. They have a circuit breaker. Does no matter if seat switch and locks work. Windows, locks and seat are three different circuists. You stated the two front windows don't work, but I don't believe you said anything about the rear windows and you were not specific if this was a coupe deville or a sedan deville. Sedan rear windows go up and down and the coupe they don't.

The first thing starting from scratch on the diagnoses is to check both switches for power. If you have power going in and out of the switches, you need to pull the driver's door trim panel.

You can remove the switch from the panel and reconnect it.

I have no clue as to how you hot wired the motor, but the right way of doing this is disconnect the connector to the window motor.

Put a test light to the connector. Press the switch up and down. If your test light lights up, the motor is junk. You can get replacement new motors for $40 on ebay.

These cars were riddled with issues. Bad switches, broken wiring going into the left door at the boot, bad switches. Also known for junk window motors.

In the event you have no power going to switch, you probably have broken wires in the boot and they are a nightmare to repair.

You also need to find the circuit breaker for the windows. Did some body remove it? I have seen that too.

Did you hot wire the motor properly? Most people don't.

As I said, if you have power going to the motor with a test light. The answer is simple. The motor is burned up.

You cannot test these circuits properly without a meter or a test light.

Wipers-again, without a test light or a meter, you cannot fix anything here!
Turn the ignition on. Turn the wipers on. Are you even getting power to the wiper motor under the hood?

You may have to pull the wiper switch and see if you are getting power there. You need to trace the circuit.

Good luck!
