Question
QUESTION: HI MY NAME IS ANTHONY I HAVE A 92 caddy deville 4 door that ive had for a week now.My problem is i was drivin and i heard a crackling like distortion and radio  turned off along with my digital gas gauge and ac digital display?wat is your opinion on this?i have check ALL fuses under the hood, under my steering wheel also the internal fuses under the glove box the number 11 20a fuse was blown put new one in and same problem .thank you

ANSWER: Hello Anthony,

The very first thing I would try if I were you to possibly isolate the problem would be remove the stereo and disconnect it completely. Replace you blown fuse and see if your digital fuel display continues to work without blowing the fuse. If so, you have a bad stereo or wiring going to it.

You did not state if this was a factory stereo or an after market unit.
I have seen some very bad stereo installations and that may be what you are dealing with.

QUESTION: It is a aftermarket stereo I already disconnected the radio and put a new fuse and nothing has changed has been like this for sa week now.I wish this could be the issue because it would be much easy to just correct the wiring for the stereo.any other ideas thank u

Answer
Hello,

If not the stereo, it can be very costly to guess what is blowing the fuse. Something in the circuit has a direct and immediate short. Whatever you do, don't try using a higher amperage fuse.

I do not know your capabilities. If you can get yourself an electrical manual for the car possibly at Ebay, you could see what is on the circuit and eliminating items until you find the problem.

I would recommend taking the car to a service center where you trust them and they can attempt to diagnose the problem for you. Whatever you do, there are two places not to go to. This can be a complicated problem, but it could be easy too. Do not go to the dealer or some alley mechanic that will claim he can fix anything.

Good Luck!
