Cadillac Repair: 1989 Cadillac Eldorado Radio Fuse Blows, cadillac eldorado, amp fuse

Question
I have a 1989 Cadillac Eldorado with 60,000 miles.  My wife was driving the car yesterday, and the radio quit working.  I checked the fuses, and the #11 position 10 amp fuse was blown.  I replaced it, but as soon as I turned on the radio, it blew again.  Would you know what is happening here and how to fix this?  Thank you.

Answer
Hello,

You have a dead short in that circuit. Remove the stereo and disconnect the plugs. Install another fuse. If it blows, you have something going on in that circuit and you need to find what else is on that circuit.

If the only time the fuse blows is when the radio is plugged in with the key on, there is an internal failure in the radio and it needs to be replaced.

If my answer has helped you, please rate it.
