Cadillac Repair: Window channel guide, cadillac deville, glass store

I needed to replace the window channel guide on my '89 Cadillac DeVille because the original broke. Now I can't get the new window channel guide to snap on to the front of the window.  It's as though the window is too thick for it even though it is not, and this window channel guide is specific for my car, model...  Is there something in particular I need to use to get it to snap closed?  I can't get it to close no matter how hard I try to squeeze it together.  Thank you for your time. I appreciate any ideas you might have.

It has been years since I used the tool for this. Snap on used to sell them. The tool is similar to a ppliars but had 2 ends that were circular that squeezed the tit into the hole through the glass. Trying to do it any other way will just break the guide.

Go to the local auto glass store. They can install in seconds and I doubt if you would get charged.
