Cadillac Repair: Poor Engine Performance, poor engine performance, heater core

QUESTION: I have an 88 eldorado. My water pump went bad. I took it to a mechanic to have replaced. I also had him install a new heater core. He said the bolts that the water pump bolted to broke off so he needed to remove the metal backing there to re-weld or replace the bolts so that the water pump would seal properly. Any way I got my car back but now I have no engine power. When I try to accelerate the car revs up in rpms then shifts/slams into 2nd gear and does not accelarate any faster. Going up an on ramp the car would only get to 10mph. While on the highway the car will not maintain 70mph even with the pedal to the floor. The heat does not work after replacing the heater core the air only blows cold on defrost. Thank you for your expertise?

IS or HAS the CHECK ENGINE light on the dash ever illuminated prior to or during this problem ?.


I am seriously thinking that you have a restriction within the catalytic converter and it needs to be replaced.

Let me know on the first question about the CHECK ENGINE light FIRST.
