Cadillac Repair: radio static, bose radio, antenna connector

QUESTION: I have a 92 seville 4.9 w/gold bose radio system. When the radio is turned on any channel their is alot of static with car on or off. Its hard to make out the music. the antenna goes up and down ok. can you tell me what I need to do to troubleshoot what is causing this problem? thanks.

ANSWER: Have you alawys had this problem for years or did you have any repairs performed of any kind on the vehicle lately ?.

QUESTION: Did you replace the radio with an after market radio ?.

QUESTION: The problem just started for no reason. It was working fine. The radio is the same one that came with the car when new. Its almost like the antenna is disconnected, but I can't tell because it's covered by a panel. Thanks.

The easiest way to diagnose it is to purchase a CHEAP antenna in Wal-Mart and remove the radio just enough to access the antenna connector and unplug the original antenna and plug in the CHEAP antenna and see if you problem is resolved. If it IS. Replace your antenna.

If it is NOT, Replace or have your radio fixed.
