Cadillac Repair: anti-theft system cadillac deville 99, poor spelling, cadillac deville

Question
QUESTION: I need your help in by-passing this horrible system. I read in your site that it can be done.( where to put the resistor?). your answer will be very much appreciated.

ANSWER: Hello,

First of all you have not indicated what your problem is. All too often, the VATS is misdiagnosed because the engine will not start and the problem is something else.

Secondly, if the system is bypassed and the car is stolen with insurance, the insurance company is going to deny the claim because such an equipped vehicle is deemed "unstealable."

I was walking people through this bypass for $100 per vehicle, but I found I could not afford to do this with 15 requests per day. Even though the bypass of VATS is the same, different procedures are used on different makes and models.

I found this cut into my work way too much and was not cost efficient. There is nothing secret about the bypass and I really don't care who knows. If you look in the archives on this site, you should be able to determine the procedure, but then you need to see how it will apply to your specific vehicle.

I apologize for not having the time to describe the specific process to you, but answering questions on this volunteer site and all the legal issues I am dealing with as an expert witness, gives me very limited time.

Answer
Hello,

Sorry about the poor spelling in my previous response. I was using my Iphone and my fingers are a little too big.
Contact a local alarm store. They should have the bypass resistors and should be capable of reading the resistance of the key.
Bypass resistors come in every remote start.

Now, if you bypass this, you need to have a HIDDEN starter disable switch installed. If the car is stolen, the insurance company will not pay the theft claim because this is a perfect excuse to deny the claim because this system is "unstealable."

You can tell them it was nbypassed, but they and there experts don't care.

This in my opinion has been a big consumer fraud issue on at least 3 GM systems, and every other manufacturer that installs an anti-theft system or an immobilizer. NONE of these systems prevent theft, but this is the holy grail for insurance companies. If the manufacturer does not warranty against theft and they make the vehicle, why should we listen to the insurance experts or the insurance companies?

What is done is a very focused examination on the ignition lock and the lack of electronic knowledge that forensic locksmiths have of these anti theft systems.

In essence, you get scammed by the manufacturer by having the problematic and antiquated VATS, because this system is so common to fail so the owner can't start the engine. Who repairs it? the dealer for $500 and the locksmith at $250, just so it can fail again and leave you stranded.

This system was first introduced in 1986. What if you had a computer from 1986? Or a stereo?

Then you get scammed by your insurance company because they won't pay a claim with an anti-theft system.

The insurance company will give discounts for anti-lock brakes, air bags, and anti-theft systems. The only thing they forget to tell you when getting your anti-theft discount, that they will not pay on the theft claim, even if legitimate!

Have the system bypassed and have a hidden starter kill toggle switch installed and you will sleep better knowing your engine will start for you and there is a real good chance it won't be successfully driven off without a key.

Don't ever believe that your car is too old to steal. Cash for clunkers has driven up used parts and made parts hard to acquire for older cars. There is a huge market for parts over our borders.

Cars are stolen to commit crimes as well. Just today, a gun store was broken into with the use of a stolen SUV in Indiana.

Good Luck!
