Cadillac Repair: 1999 Cad Eldorado hard start, electric fuel pump, gas tank

Question
QUESTION: I have also had a hard start problem, At first it was all the time since I have replaced the F.P.R. and the Fuel pump. Now it is only hard to start in the A.M. I use the turn ignition 3 times trick and it almost always works but this is not correct and I want to nail the problem. I park in the garage at night backed up to a white wall I do not notice any black marks of heavy exhaust in the garage when I start the car. Could I still have a leaking injector with out having these symptoms. I am currently out of ideas I do own most diagnostic equipment required but I need some direction. I am a privet owner who enjoys working on his own vehicles. Thanks for your help. Jim

ANSWER: Here is a test procedure to see if the fuel pump works when your problem occurs.

1. Remove the gas cap.

2. Listening very carefully with your head out the door and getting as close to the ground and listening at the gas tank.

3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position ONLY, Do NOT try and start the engine. You should be able to hear the electric fuel pump motor run for only 2 seconds and then it will stop.

4. If you can hear it run for the 2 seconds and then stop, You do NOT have a fuel pump problem.

   (a) If you do NOT hear the fuel pump run for the 2 seconds and stop then the fuel pump is faulty and requires replacement.

QUESTION: Thank you, As I stated befor I replaced the fuel pump due to low pressure with an OEM unit I now have very good fuel pressure and the pump works as it should I am quite sure I am past this problem. Any other ideas as to why it would only be hard to start after sitting over night like I said I use the 3 key turn and the car will fire right away this tells me I do not have a pick up sensor problem. I will gladly take any suggestions as this is driving me nutts. Thanks, Jim

ANSWER: The only other probability is that you most likely have a couple of injectors leaking fuel into the engine.
