Cadillac Repair: 1989 Cadillac Seville steering column disassembly..., turn signal switch, cadillac seville

Question
The rack %26 rod assembly in my steering wheel broke inside my Cadillac Seville that has the factory vats system.  I got a new column that will fit the only thing is that the car it came from did not have vats.  thus i need to switch the upper metal housing part of the steering column from my car onto the new column.   I have everything out down to the three silver t30 (i think) torx screws that hold the upper housing onto the column, but i am unable to take it off because the tilt lever is in the way. I cant seem to get the tilt lever off so i can remove the upper part of the steering column (the part that houses the turn signal switch lock cylinder key buzzer switch etc).  I simply need to know what to do to get the tilt lever off so the upper part of the steering column will come out.  I don't want to break anything this is why i have stopped at this point. This car by the way has the floor shifter, and only has the tilt, telescope, and turn signal levers on the column.

Answer
Hello,

Some of the tilt levers are tight. You may end up leaving marks, but it can't be helped. You need to put small vice grips on it, get tight and turn counter clock wise until you can unscrew by hand.

If black, you can repaint. If chrome there will be small marks.

Have fun!
