Cadillac Repair: Engine wont start, spark plug wires, schrader valve

Question
QUESTION: How do you start a 4.9L 1992 Eldorado remanufactured engine that has just been installed?  It will turn over, but not start? Thanks

ANSWER: Are you getting ignition from the spark plug wires to the spark plugs ?.

Are you getting fuel to the fuel injectors ?.

Will it try and start if you spray a little bit of starting fluid into the air cleaner ?.

QUESTION: Okay, I did spray caburator cleaner into the throttle body with no difference.  I am not sure if I am getting fuel, I do hear the fuel pump run much longer than usual and not even stop.  I have not looked for a spark yet.  I will have to try to figure out how to do that when cranking it myself?  THANKS!!!!  Marty

ANSWER: NOT carb cleaner, You have to use STARTING FLUID.

Try this AFTER you try and start it using STARTING FLUID:

1. when you turn the ignition key to the ON position without trying to start the engine you should hear the fuel pump run for ONLY 2 seconds and then it should stop.  DOES IT ?.

QUESTION: I am now getting spark, checked it with spare spark plug to ground while cranking engine.  (my mistake, I forgot to connect a plug to the distributor when I was rechecking all my wiring connections)  sheesh.
Okay, I did try putting starter fluid in.  No go.
I am getting pressure to the fuel injectors.

..........Could I have flooded the engine with too much starting fluid or fuel while cranking often when I DID NOT have spark?

The fuel pump turns on when key is on, pumps for about 20 seconds, then turns off.  It will then turn back on and cycle like that for about 5-6 times before cutting off completely.  When it stops cycling, I assume the pressure is correct then.  I get plenty of fuel sprayed out of the schrader valve when I check it on the fuel rail.  That cycle has gone on each time I was trying to turn the engine over, which is now about 15 times.
I am thinking I am or have pumped way too much fuel in the pistons or sprayed way too much starting fluid into the throttle body trying to turn over the engine when I did not have wire connections correct.
What do you think??  Should I wait a bit and let some of the fuel dissipate?  Should I pull some plugs to see if they are way too wet?  If I pull a plug, what should I look for?  Any other suggestions?
Thanks!!!  Marty

Answer
Pull the spark plugs and see if they are WET with gas and or are carbon fouled which will show as a black residue on the bottom end of the spark plugs.

If the spark plugs are WET and carbon fouled you need to get them cleaned or replace them.

You also need to change the engine oil as it is saturated with gasoline.

Once you clean or replace the spark plugs and change the engine oil, Get back to me so we can perform a simple test to see why the fuel pump is running to long.

Fuel pump should only run for 2 seconds when you turn the ignition switch to the ON position WITHOUT trying to start the engine.

Possible cause is a fault in the computer timer module and or a sticking fuel pump relay which we will test when you get the spark plugs and engine oil procedures done.
