Cadillac Repair: cadillac allante, cadillac allante, service engine soon light

Question
QUESTION: I just had a right 02 sensor replaced on 1991 allante 79k mi.(the left was replaced 3mos. ago) car is running fine except the service engine soon light came on indicating a current fault EO46, can you advise?
Thanks for your time Bill(NJ)

ANSWER: Your problem is NOT your sensors. Your problem is that you have to much or to little fuel going to one side vs the other.

Most likely caused by leaking and or clogged fuel injectors.

QUESTION: Thanks for your prompt response, Oh well I spoke too soon! Yesterday while drivivg on a straight-away at 60 mph. the car lost speed and downshifted I slowed down (40 mph) it upshifted and drove fine? If it's the injectors can you recommend a cleaner or is replacement in order. If to be replaced; all, or can the problem be isolated. The car was stored for 4 years but has been driven daily since (5k).
Once again, THANKS FOR YOU TIME....Bill(NJ)

ANSWER: You can watch the tachometer to see how many rpm's it drops as you disconnect and reconnect each injector. The ones that cause the rpm's to drop the least rpm's will require cleaning or replacement.

The best think to do is remove all the injectors and mark them so you can put each one back in the same spot from where you removed it from and take ALL the injectors into a repiair facility that tests injectors and have them all tested.

QUESTION: Hello Again,

1991 Cadillac Allante 4.5 mileage 80k sitting for 5 years

As you have advised,I have decided to replace (OEM) all of the injectors. In the mean-time while playing with the diagnostics I recorded the following info that I hope you could review and perhaps suggest other than the FI's if the car is trying to tell me something.

Current indicators BEFORE STARTING: CURRENT ED 21, ED 31, ED 46, ED 99

AFTER STARTING AND RUNNING (rough): CURRENT ED 46, HISTORY ED 16, ED 17, ED 21, ED 26, ED 31, ED 74, ED 99, ED 132.

What are the meaning of these codes, and should more work other then the FI's be done. I would like to have all necessary work done at once. You have been EXTREMELY HELP-FULL.
As always "thanks for your time" Bill from NJ

Answer
The codes are E0 codes. Not ED codes.

The only one we are interested in at this time is the E021 code which is a short in the THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS).

What you need to do FIRST is to CLEAR (erase) ALL the codes from the computer using ONLY the climate control panel. Pulling fuses and disconnecting the battery will NOT CLEAR the codes.

Once the codes are CLEARED, Drive the car and see which codes return as CURRENT or HISTORY.
