Cadillac Repair: 91 fleetwood, many instrument lights and ac out, head bolts, head screws

Question
Checked the internet and all your answers, so far no luck.
Driving along yesterday, after leaving a stop sign most of instrument panel went
dead, gas gauge, mileage and ac fan motor as well. Noticed a slight electrical smell,
checked all fuses I could find by sight, drivers side, passenger side and engine
compartment all look good. Car still runs fine, just got a new job in Florida. Pretty
handy with cars and broke, hope to solve this myself. Any thoughts. Thank You Bill

Answer
Hello Bill,

Please remember, I am not looking at the vehicle and am just guessing like you.

I would go to the electrical ignition switch first, since that controls power to what you describe.

I am not referring to where the key goes, but under the dash on the top of the steering column.

To gain access, you will have to remove the hush panel (black plastic hiding the underneath of the dash. 2-9/32 head screws and 2 10mm head bolts on firewall.

There are two connectors that fit in the electrical ignition switch. Remove, inspect for arcing and reinstall. The switch is relatively easy to change. The high beam switch is removed and there is one stud and one screw. If you need to change it, I can give you instructions.
