Cadillac Repair: VATS/92 Deville, ohm meter, meter check

Question
I wrote to you about Pass key malfunction. You sent a reply that shocked my father and I.You are indeed the professional I was seeking. You Explained about 2 small white wires wrapped with orange sheathing, and how to splice in a resistor.I saw an orange sheathed wire that looked like two small wires inside.I tried to verify white sheathing under orange, did not see it.I'm almost sure this is the wire, but could you
clarify a little more on this.   Respectfully&Thankfully,   Ray...P.S...did you see the rating I gave you?Your #1,TOPS!

Answer
Under the dash at the end of the steering column you will see 2 white wires all by themselves in a 2 wire electrical connector.

Disconnect this electrical wire connector and using a DIGITAL ohm meter, check for a short to ground on BOTH wires. If no short found, Measure the resistance of the key with the ohm meter and insert it into the lock cylinder and check the ohms reading on the 2 white wires that you disconnected which go back up inside the steering column and see if you get the same or very close to the same OHMS reading as you did when you ohmed the key. If the ohms do not somewhat match, You have a problem with the 2 wires that go up inside the steering column and attach to the ignition lock cylinder which will need to be replaced.

You can also take the ohms reading of the key and purchase a resistor with the same ohms resistance and attach each end to the 2 white wires under the dash that do NOT go up into the steering column but DO go into the main wiring harness and see if the engine starts.
