Cadillac Repair: 1999 Cadillac Deville turn lights and brake lights, turn signal switch, check fuse

Question
I have a 1999 Cadillac Deville. The turn lights stopped working but if I manually turn the switch they work. At the same time the brake lights stopped working, I've checked the bulbs, I've changed the flasher still no brake and turn lights. The emergency lights do work though.

Answer
Hello,

The first thing I would tell you is change the flasher, but you already did and the flasher does not control the brake lights. There are commonly 2 flashers-one for the t.s. and one for the 4-way emergency.

You say you checked the bulbs. Since I am not looking at the vehicle-are the 4-ways the same bulbs that are used in the brake lights? Or are there seperate lenses?

The brake/tail light, t.s. are a dual filiment bulb and both filiments need to be checked for breakage, but I find it impossible to believe both brake lights would blow at the same time.

Get your opwner's manual and check fuse box locations. I believe on your car there is one under the dash and another in the trunk.
Check all fuses.

Now, I am thinking while writing here. I hate guessing and I am at a great disadvantage not being at the vehicle. If all fuses are good, my next thought would be to check the turn signal switch with a test light or meter. The brake lights and turn signals are fed fron the steering column at the turn signal switch.

After you do these checks, let me know if there was a problem with the turn signal switch, a fuse you did not check etc.
