Cadillac Repair: Windows inop, quality switches, fuse box

Question
I have a 1997 Cadillac Deville and the windows will not operate.  Is this caused by fuse or is this a switch issue?

Answer
Hello,

I just responded to this the other day on a Caddy that the windows did not work. I went into great detail. Try searching for this answer.

Sometimes the diagnoses is simple and commonly it's not. Your windows are operated with a circuit breaker. You will need to look at your owner's manual for fuse box locations.

Everything to do with the windows on these vehicles was not of the highest quality. Bad motors that could not raise the window properly, plastic window regfulator belts, poor quality switches and wiring.

The problem you may have could be at the driver's door which controls all door windows, locks, mirrors, seats. Yes, a real wiring disaster in which feed wires commony break under the rubber boot at the pinch point by the hinge.

You can save yourself quite a bit of money if you purchace an electrical service manual for your specific car. Diagnostic flow charts, schematics and anything you need to knopw is there. You can get a manual by searching Ebay or google "Helm."

Good Luck!
