QUESTION: I will be driving on either the highway or city surface streets. For example I'll be driving about 35 mph (steady speed) on city surface streets and all of a sudden the car will start accelerating to 40, 45 so forth. I have taken my foot off the gas pedal and it will still go. I pull over on the side of the street and I have my foot on the brake and change gears, and it stops. The best way I can describe it is as if you are holding the brake pedal to floor of the car and your pressing the gas pedal to the floor.
ANSWER: IS or HAS the CHECK ENGINE light ever illuminated on the dash while this was occurring ?.

AnswerThis appears to be a fault with the IDLE SPEED CONTROL internal plastic gears. This is a common problem and can be resolved by replacing the ISC motor and resetting the BASE IDLE SPEED, TPS and cleaning the throttle body air intake and throttle plate.
