Cadillac Repair: Cadillac fuel shut off, cadillac fleetwood brougham, 1994 cadillac fleetwood

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, which was hit by another car at the rear right wheel, damaging the door and the rear panel and the tire. As soon as I was hit, the engine quit running instantly, and I still can't get it to run. I am told some cars have a fuel shut off switch that deactivates the fuel during an accident. I am not sure if this is the case, and if so, I have no idea where the switch is located. Could you please help me understand what might have caused the engine to quit or if it was a fuel shut off that caused it to quit. Please tell me where the fuel cut off switch is located so I can get the car running. Or, could the hit have damaged the fuel pump causing the engine to quit. This is the only vehicle I have and I am stuck with no transportation. Thank you, Sam

ANSWER: Cadillac does NOT use a fuel shut off switch.

1. Remove the gas cap and have someone listen at the gas cap opening.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position so the dash lights come ON, But do NOT try and start the engine.

3. As soon as you turn the key to the ON position your helper should hear the fuel pump make a buzzing sound for only 2 seconds and then it will stop.

Does it ?.

QUESTION: I had my wife turn the key to ON without starting the car, and I listened to any buzzing sound. I heard absolutely NO buzzing sound at all. What does this mean, could it be the pump is out or does it have a fuse that needs to be replaced. I looked for a fuse titled fuel pump and I didn't find one. What is the next step please.
Thank you, Sam

ANSWER: In the engine compartment check the fuse box and you will see a row of little fuses. Check # 13 which is a 15 amp fuse as it should have battery voltage on both sides at all times.

If you are mechanicaly inclined or know of someone who is, You will need a DIGITAL VOLT/OHM METER, Simple electrical schematics, Test procedures and picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture. I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information.

QUESTION: Firstly I want to thank you for your time. I did find the fuel pump 15 amp fuse in the engine compartment,  and I checked its continuity and it is fine. I checked voltage across the fuse terminals with the fuse out, and it checked out OK, there was voltage. But I still have the problem of no fuel to the engine. What would be the next step, would it be the fuel pump itself. If it should be the fuel pump, is there any way to check it, short of taking it out? Thank you again,
Sam

Answer
We can remove the fuel pump relay and jumper the terminals to make the fuel pump run all the time and while jumpered you can check for battery voltage at the fuel pump feed wire.

You may want to look under the vehicle to see if any wires got damaged where you got hit.

To test the fuel pump, E-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com for pictures and test procedures as this website which is NOT mine only allows ONE picture.
