QUESTION: how would i even try to remove the key with out damaging the ignition switch? the front half is stuck in switch! i do have the other half with chip on it! car was starting up till last week? and when and if i can remove the other half what do i do with it?

ANSWER: Every ignition key has a different RESISTANCE built into the ignition key, Thus the reason for the CHIP on the key. If you can get the piece out of the ignition lock cylinder on the steering column you can take both halfs of the key to any locksmith who can give you the same RESISTANCE key as yours and put the two pieces of the broken key together so he can cut the EXACT grooves that are on your original key.

If you can't get the piece out, He can use the broken key that you have and read the resistance of the broken part of the key and give you a key and lock cylinder that has the exact same resistance as your broken key has.

Then you will have to replace the lock cylinder in the steering column with the lock cylinder he gives you with the new key.

You need special tools to remove the lock cylinder. Once you replace the lock cylinder you will get a new key with the same resistance in it as your old key and they will cut the grooves from the 2 pieces of your old key into the new key and the vehicle will start.
