Cadillac Repair: HOW DO YOU RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE?, cadillac deville, release lever

Question
Hi, we have a 1989 Cadillac Deville (it's a new car for us) and we would like to know how to release the parking brake? I thought that the manual said that it is supposed to release automatically once you start driving and that if this doesn't happen seek service. Well, this didn't happen.. the parking brake is still on and we've been driving it short distances with it on. Our old Volvo had a release lever you pulled (I believe, if my memory is correct) and we're hoping we read the manual wrong and that the Cadillac has some kind of release lever as well (only we can't find it). This is a very complicated car (compared to our 1974 Volvo that we drove for 34 yrs -  God rest it's soul - we miss it). We're still not sure whether we like our Cadillac or not but we're trying hard to get somewhat familiar with it. If anybody can answer my question it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks..Judy and Billie. Our email is judybinsd@yahoo.com.

Answer
Just below the dash near the drivers door is a small black release handle.

If you are mechanicaly inclined or know of someone who is, You will need simple electrical schematics, Test procedures and picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture. I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information.
