Cadillac Repair: air in the cooling system?, mechanic friend, coolant system

Question
My wife has a 92 STS (pre-Northstar) and it has a big problem with overheating during the summer. My father-in-law talked to a "mechanic" friend of his and said that this year had a big problem with air pockets getting trapped in the engine block..... the remedy, jack the passenger side up as high as safely possible (tire about a foot off the ground), remove the radiator cap and let the car run till all the air bubbles out of the coolant system, adding water every time the level drops in the radiator. it takes about 2 hrs to do and almost the whole time the temp reads between 215 and 225.... now after we do this, its fine for about a month or 2 this it starts over heating again..... is that just a load of BS he fed us? if its not, its there a way to fix this or an easier way to remove the air pockets?

Answer
is that just a load of BS he fed us? YES !!!!!.

According to the factory service manual you drain and refill the system just like you would do any older vehicle like you have been doing.

NORMAL engine temp is 220 to 240 degrees and can even climb as high as 250 in the summer.

When was the last time you replaced the thermostat ?.
