Cadillac Repair: GM Tilt/telescopic steering question, turn signal switch, metal arm

Question
Cadillac Repair: GM Tilt/telescopic steering question, turn signal switch, metal arm
Cadillac steering colu
I own an 84 Coupe Deville d'Elegance.  It was stolen and recovered in one piece but not without some damage on the steering column housing.  As a result of the damage, the hi beam switch aka the turn signal lever was disconnected somehow.  The turn signal worked fine but hi beams didnt work.  So I bought a new column housing and new ignition key and lock and had my Crackhead mechanic install the parts.  Well, a half day(yup took him about 6 hours)later I'm still not able to click on my hi-beams, my horn doesn't work, my steering wheel is misaligned, and to top it all off he replaced the turn signal cam in wrong.  So my blinkers go on every time I turn the wheel to the left.  I had confronted him about it and got nothing but grief!  Your help is greatly appreciated.  I knew I shouldve taken it to a guy who has experience with with GM tilt/telescopic steering wheels.

Answer
These steering columns are not that hard to work on provided you have the special tools required to remove the LOCK PLATE and the steering wheel.

Most likely he forgot to install the long metal arm the connects to the turn signal switch to the dimmer switch located on the steering column under the dash.

The turn signal is most likely due to a bent LOCK PLATE because he did not have the special tool to remove it.

Your only choice is to have someone who has worked on these columns many many times.

You can get pictures of what the problems are but the knowledge to install them you can't get unless you have seen a few taken apart.   If you want the pictures of the steering column components and the missing/damaged components:

You will need simple picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture. I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information.
