Cadillac Repair: SERVICE AIR CONDITIONER TRBL. LIGHT, r 12 freon, cadillac deville

Question
Air Conditioning problem
1993 Cadillac Deville V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 115000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
, but, I have a "SERVICE AIR CONDITIONER" FAULT ON MY DASH BOARD TROUBLE LIGHT AREA. I cannot get the air conditioner to kick on. We have put a new compressor in and changed over to 134a. I just had a leaky O ring replaced. The system never did blow really cold air, just enough to make it bearable. Now, the mechanic told me they cleared all error codes, but cannot now get an error code reading for the present SERVICE AIR CONDITIONER light. If I can't clear the code. the climate control will stay on ECON and not go into AUTO. Why can't the error code scanner not be able to read this error light. I have a digital dash. I am getting very frustrated, must have spent $2400 already to try and get my air working.

Answer
In the first place you CANNOT convert the Cadillac AC system to the R134 refrigerant due to the incompatability of the LOW PRESSURE SENSOR within the AC system. If you try and convert, The CHECK ENGINE light will constantly illuminate and you will have NO AC.

Fixing your system is not very difficult but you will have to switch back to the R-12 freon.

If you want to check for CODES yourself:

1. turn ignition switch to the ON position. Do NOT start the engine.

2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER (^) buttons on your climate control panel for 3 seconds and release them.

3. look on your fuel display screen for any combination of LETTERS & NUMBERS to appear. Along with each code that displays you will see the word HISTORY or CURRENT.

4. I need to know what CODES you get and if the code is HISTORY or CURRENT.

5. Turn OFF ignition switch.
