Cadillac Repair: 89 Cadillac fleetwood, cadillac fleetwood, alittle

Question
I just bought a 89 Cadillac Fleetwood and it died out while putting on the a/c. While at a red light the car just shut it self off.. Is there anything that you might be able to help me out? I tried adjusting the idle alittle higher and it didn't really help at all but made the car idle higher... As you can see im not a mechanic, just know enough to get around. Also the previous owner said that the map sensor may be bad. Does that have anything to do with it? I'd appreciate your help!

What did you adjust to increase the idle speed of which you should NEVER DO, As the idle speed is computer controlled and all you did was screw it up. No sarcasm intended.

IS or HAS the check engine light on the dash ever illuminated while driving the vehicle ?.
