Cadillac Repair: 1990 cadillac security, resistance value, cadillac sedan deville

Question
Hi, I am Ernest. I have a 1990 cadillac sedan deville. I lost my original set of keys and did not have a replacement set. I replaced the ignition switch, so i will have an ignition key. Now I can not get out of security mode. I tried the 3 min. mode and no start. HELP!!! I wondered if I could just cut the security wires?

Answer
When you replaced the ignition switch did you also have to connect a white wire under the dash ?. If you did, the reason your car won't start is because the original keys contained a micro chip that when inserted into the lock has a resistance value built into the original keys and you need to obtain a key that had the same resistance value as did your original key and have this resistance key cut to the pattern of the key you got for the new lock.

You need to perform some simple test procedures using some resistors in order to find out what resistance your security system is so it matches the keys resistance.

You will need simple Test procedures and picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture. I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information.
