Cadillac Repair: engine and seat swaps on a 1961 cadillac, seat swap, engine swap

Question
I wanted to know if I could swap out a 61' 390 for a 472 engine? would it require any major modifications? also where could I get info on this swap. Secondly I want to take out the bench seat in the cadillac and replace it with bucket seats. where could I find info on the same dimension seats that I could use? Thanks

Answer
Hi Don,

Your Caddy is alittle out of my area of books that I can look up the info. The best I can do is tell you to call the Caddy parts department and find out what body type letter designation it is. Cars of the same body type often can interchange seats without too much of a problem. So for example it is a "D" body then any GM vehicle with a "D" body should be able to sway seats without too much reworking. As for the engine swap...if the 472 was offered I would say engine mounts and the exhaust mounting would probably be differant. Calling a junkyard/auto recycler and asking them would be your best bet of how easy a swap it would be because they have a Hollander Interchange Manual that tells what parts can be used for what years. Looking in the Hemmings Motor News magazine might give you some direction about what you are trying to do. Sorry I can't be anymore help that that. Bill
