Cadillac Repair: 95 Cadillac Concours - fumes, gas fumes, control message

I have a 95 Concours that when stopped at a traffic light or stop sign, lets in heavy gas fumes.  Just before this started happening, I started getting the "Service Ride Control" message and the code S038 Current.  I know about the Service Ride Control problem from other posts here, but would that have any bearing on the fume issue?  Also, would the Service Ride Control issue make the car ride like a Pinto?  I've had it for 2 yrs and it's never ridden like a Cadillac should.

Without having access to the car, the fumes could be coming from either the return line from the evaporative canister and or an exhaust leak.

As to the ride control, YES, this code will cause it to ride very firm and unstable. I can help you to fix this problem.
