Cadillac Repair: Fan belt, fan belts

I have a 1981 fleetwood brougham 6 cylnder, the fan belt just went out, in your
opinon can a novice fix this and what are the steps?

Hi Jake,

     A novice should be able to replace a belt provided that you have access to metric tools. Also having a basic shop manual would help. If you go to autozone.com, repair info, vehicle repair guides, routine maintenance, routine maintenance again and then belts it gives some tips on what to do. Once you enter your year make model and engine size there are some pics that should help. On a car that old though the bolts might be rusty so depending on what belt you have to change your mechanic might be the best option. Bill
