Cadillac Repair: 1990 brougham transmission, brougham, clutches

Question
The trans runs normal when cold, when hot it seems to shift early, luggs the engine a bit. I pumped out some fluid thinking it was too full. Fluid is dark in color but does not smell burned. Still shifts different when hot. What is it and is it safe to run it as is.

Answer
If the fluid is DARK in color this is caused usually by slipping clutches in the transmission due to a faulty seal which causes low pressure to the clutches and makes them burn the material on the clutches thus turning the fluid color DARK.

You will need to have a technician drive the vehicle as the diagnosis is in the FEEL of the transmission shifting.
