Cadillac Repair: Cadillac not starting, starter solenoid, purple wire

Question
This is a strange one. In the morning 3 days ago I tried to start my 87 Cadillac and it would not turn over at all. I had full power, all dash light came on, power locks were working, it just wouldn't turn over, I even tried banging the starter to see if maybe that wasn't the problem. Nothing.  Later on in the day after the sun had come up maybe 4 hours later I went out and it fired right up no problems and did so all day long. The next morning, same thing, afternoon it started right up and worked fine until was done driving it that night. This morning same thing again, I don't even know what to check for this type of behavior. Any ideas at all would be appreciated. Thanks    Steve

Answer
When this fault occurs, Check for battery voltage on the PURPLE wire that is attached to the "S" terminal on the starter solenoid on the starter. This will be the ONLY wire on this "S" terminal.

If you DO have battery voltage, Replace the starter as it what is commonly called TEMPERATURE SENSITIVE internally and is not making internal contacts when the starter is cold.
