Cadillac Repair: 2000 Seville SLS, blinking dash, dead battery

Question
My dash display was blinking in/out, problems with starting vehicle with key, will start with remote start, battery dead every morning.  Had ignition switch replaced.  Starts with key now.  How do I repair the dash display and address the battery problem?

Answer
Hi Vickie,

Your problems are something that needs special tools to diagnose. For example to address the battery problem you would need a special tester that can test the battery and the alternator. If your battery is the original one there is a possability that replaceing it might fix that problem. Otherwise an ampmeter would be needed to check and see what isn't turning off and then fuses and relays would need to be removed to isolate the problem.

The dash blinking would need a scan tool that can read the dash trouble codes. Unfortunately AutoZone can't help with those. If there aren't any codes then a shop manual and voltmeetr would be needed to trace the circuits to see where the problem lies. It could turn out to be a defective dash but without testing I wouldn't replace it.

Sorry I can't be anymore help than that. Bill
