Cadillac Repair: bad gas mileage, bank repo, better mileage

QUESTION: 2000 sts with bad gas mileage  about 14mpg avg.????

ANSWER: Bad gas mileage can be caused by numerous things:

1. Cheap gas.

2. driver habits, such as resting your left foot on the brake pedal which will cause the transmission NOT to go into over drive.

3. worn spark plugs.

4. Dirty air filter.

QUESTION: IS or HAS the CHECK ENGINE ever illuminated on the dash ?.


If your using the mileage computer on the dashboard to calculate your miles per gallon. This item has NEVER been accurate since the day they started putting them IN back in the 80's.

Calculate your mileage the old fashioned way.

QUESTION: I use sheetz gas but 87..It has new plugs and wires ..both my girlfreind and I get bad mileage...my parents 2004 gets alot better mileage...even on the highway at 65mph it only got around 16-17mpg...as far as I know engine light has not been on...battery was dead when I got car...it was a bank repo...Mike  any Ideas..dont have book for this year so don't know how to pull codes

autozone WILL CHECK THE CODES FOR FREE. Ask them when they check the codes if the codes are HISTORY CODES or CURRENT codes, Because one code can be HISTORY and another can be CURRENT.

Write down the codes and then ask them to CLEAR (erase) all the codes.

Let me know what codes they got and watch to see if the check engine light illuminates within a few days.

Other possibilities ould be leaking fuel injectors which would need to be removed and physically tested.
