QUESTION: I have replaced my thermostat and my water pump. How can I tell if is a blown head gasket? The engine check engine light only comes on when the car is starting then it goes out.

Answer
The most effective way is to remove all the spark plugs, Remove the radiator cap, Take your compression tester hose and remove the check valve from the bottom of the hose as it will unscrew just like a tire valve and thread it into each spark plug hole and put an air hose with about 60 lbs of pressure and attach it to your compression hose and see if coolant bubbles out of the radiator cap opening.

If it DOES, Blown head gaskets.
