Cadillac Repair: electrical problems in the 2000 Cadillac Escalade, cadillac dealer, dr appointment

Question
Today while driving to a dr appointment 42 miles from my home, the radio, windows and wiper blades stopped working again!!  The big problem was it was raining and I had no wipers.  I have had this car in to both the Cadillac dealer and the GMC dealer for this problem.  they always say they cannot find any thing wrong and say bring it back when it is not functioning so they can diagnosis the problem.  of course, when I get it there it works for them.  I bought the car in 2002 and the problem started a few months later.  My warranty ended in Dec 2007 so naturally it breaks down completly now.  Since I have had the car in 5 times for this problem do I have any recourse to make the warranty company cover this problem?

Answer
Hi Cynthia,

Finding an intermittant problem like yours is kind of tough. Searching the archives the most common problem is a loose soldier joint in the BCM/body computor module. If it is removed and tapped on sometimes the items will act up. It would need to be programmed after replacement.

One other area seems to be the ignition switch but if you can't turn the key off and restart the engine to get the items to work I would be leaning more to the BCM.

As far as a lemon law in Illinois if you have to bring it in more that 3 times for the same problem in 1 year that could be a lemon law buy back. I am not sure about if the dealer can't fix a problem once it is out of warrenty...that would be something to research by calling the Cadillac zone office in your area or call a lawyer. Hopefully I have been of some help. Bill
