Cadillac Repair: Reading ABS Codes, wheel sensors, obd 1

I have a 1993 Deville with an ABS light. Can this be read(the code) without a high priced scan tool. I have a basic OBD 1/2 reader, and this one cannot do it. Can it be done via the on board diagnostics? I have the shop manual, and there does not seem to be a way to do it, short of the major league tester.

You are correct in needing the correct tester. However, Check for fault codes via the climate control OFF and WARMER buttons and see if you get any codes.

There IS a manual procedure in the 1994 book, BUT, I have never tried it on the 83 deville.


In ost cases the fault is usually a wheel sensor. Disconnect each of the 4 wheel sensors and check the resistance of the coil inside the hubs to see if all 4 read almost exactly the same.
