QUESTION: Car was running fine, suddenly starts skipping mildly, parked it, started up next day it ran rough and lost power. Now it will hardly run at all, skipping and sputtering. Do these engines skip time like old motors used to, this is what it feels like.

IS or HAS the check engine light ever illuminated on the dash while driving the car ?.

If it HAS and you know how to retrieve the codes from the computer, Do so and let me know what the codes are.

QUESTION: Thanks for your response. Yes the service engine light has been on and I know you get the codes from the climate control but I don't know which buttons to push to make them come on. If you could tell me which ones I will get the codes back to you asap.

ANSWER: Follow this procedure if you have an ELDO or a SEVILLE:

1. Ignition switch ON. Engine NOT running.

2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER (^) buttons on the climate control panel for 3 seconds and release them.

3. In the fuel data display you will see LETTERS & NUMBERS appear and with EACH LETTERS & NUMBERS that appear you will see the word HISTORY or CURRENT and the display will stop at PCM?.

4. Turn ignition switch OFF.

5. Tell me EXACTLY what appears in the EXACT order in which they appear as if you were video taping the display.

QUESTION: OK, the code comes up as follows, 888 . .E E52 .7.0 that is all that comes up.  Hope this means something, it is a deville touring sedan not eldo or seville if that matters.

The ONLY thing this code means is that battery voltage was removed from the computer most likely from disconnecting the battery.

Did you have this problem AFTER you disconnected the battery from the vehicle or was it evident prior to disconnecting the battery ?.
