Cadillac Repair: R&R Water pump 95 Cadillac Deville 4.9, cadiilac, cadillac deville

I have changed water pumps out in the past on older vehicles that I have owned but now I have a Cadiilac with 4.9 and the water pump is leaking out the hole and it is only 3 years old. Is there any thing I need to be aware of before doing this. One mechanic was telling me some B/S about special tools and it could be leaking behind the timing cover and they were going to charge me $200.00 just for labor. I have the new pump and feel like I can do it, by the way that mechanic tried to tell me about the timingg cover, I never bought that I know there is only oil that goes thru there. So anything special I need to look or watch out for? Thanks Johnny

There is nothing special on this engine to watch out for and no special tools are required.

HOWEVER, Be extremly careful as NOT to disturb the timing cover gasket when removing the water pump. If you accidently disturb the timing cover and gasket you will need to replace the timing case cover gasket as it will leak coolant into the engine oil.
