Cadillac Repair: 1994 Sedan Deville Computer, obd system, diagnostic mode

Question
Hello there! I have two questions, the first is that I am receiving an I039 code, seemingly the speed sensor, and the "Service Ride Control" comes on. Any more information available on this? Additionally, it seems that changes can be made to the computer via the climate control when it is in the "diagnostic" mode. What changes can be made, and where can I find out the proper settings for this?

Answer
Mike,
The code you mention points to a communication break between the IPC (instrument cluster) and the RSS module. There is most likely and bad connection between the two, or maybe a bad module. Troubleshooting this type of issue can get rather involved so you'll need to be handy with a DVOM and have a pretty good idea of the systems layout. If this is the case, let me know and we can work through it. If not, I'd say this is best left to a pro.
As for what settings etc. can be changed via the OBD system, I can tell you there are a few but it's NOT something I would say the average owner should play with. I've seen a few people try and totally screw up their cars.
If you truly want to pursue that though, I'd say that you should get a  OEM shop manual, read up on this subject thoroughly, and then go ahead and play. There's a reason why this info is ONLY available in the factory shop manual, it's meant for a professional tech only.
