when i put my foot on the brake to stop, the engine shuts off, had back to caddy dealer and they can't find the problem, it does not happen all the time. it also has happened when i was on a road doing 40 mph

This can be cause by a blackish residue buildup within the throttle plate area of the air intake. Using a suitable aerosol cleaner , clean both sides of the throttle plate as well as the surrounding area of this blackish residue and see if this resolves your problem.

IS or HAS the check engine light ever illuminated while driving the vehicle ?>
