Cadillac Repair: Rear end suspension, cadillac sls, rear shocks

Question
2002 Cadillac SLS rear end will not go down. You can hear the pumps working when you start the car, but the rear end sticks up, like it will not level out. Very stiff ride.

Answer
Hi Jim,

The place to start would be to have the suspension codes read and that could lead to a defective height sensor. Sometimes the link that connects the sensor to the car control arm gets broken or disconnected allowing it to be positioned incorrectly.

If that doesn't find the problem I would disconnect the air tube at the rear shocks/struts and see if the rear then goes down. The shock/strut could be defective or the release solenoid inside the level ride compressor could be staying closed and not allowing the air to exhaust. Bill
