Cadillac Repair: blowing pump fuse, oil pressure switch, wireing diagram

Question
my 83 cadillac deville keeps blowing the fuel pump fuse when i turn the key on

Answer
Hi Joshcad,

There are a number of reasons that the fuse could be blowing...fuel pump draws too many amps, something on the circuit is drawing too many amps, something is shorted to ground or a wire is bare and touching metal.

What you need to do is get a wireing diagram and disconnect things on the circuit until the fuse quits blowing and substitute a circuit breaker of the same rating as the fuse.

One service bulletin that comes to mind is that the oil pressure switch or its wiring shorts out and that causes the fuse to blow.

Good luck in your hunt for the short. Bill
