Cadillac Repair: 1989 Seville no start, security feature, eliminator

Question
Hi...'89 Seville. Battery was no good, so I replaced it, but I'm not currently driving the car, so it sat for a few weeks with no battery. I put the new one in, and the car turns over, chugs a bit, starts, runs for a few seconds then quits. I thought the fuel might be frozen or have water in it, so filled the tank with fresh gas, and water eliminator. Still nothing. Someone told me that this is a security feature on this car. That there is some sort of sequence I have to follow to start the car, because the battery was dead for so long. Thus car was driven regularly in the fall, and ran perfect.

Answer
Hi Steve,

There is no security feature that would disable the vehicle in the way you explain.

This is a long shot, but try this.  It's kind of a glitch in the cadillac and grand ams--  Here is a quote I found in a Cadillac Forum:

"By reading owners manual I have learned about the pass lock and over riding it. I put the ignition in off, then turn it on and wait 10 minutes. I restart it and it starts like a charm."

I would thank the above contributor, but there was no name to cite.  However, I do hope this helps.

Let me know what happens.  If you still have a problem, feel free to reach out, and I'll see what else I can find out.

Good Luck,

Ron
