Cadillac Repair: shift solenoid, cadillac eldorado, word history

QUESTION: 96 Cadillac eldorado has something wrong with the transmission, it shifts to 3 and not overdrive and even after stopping it stays in 3rd and if I leave the shifter set on over drive it will rev up and ack like it's not in gear. It shifts smooth other than that. Is it the solenoid? if so, where is the solenoid located?

ANSWER: There are several shift solenoids. Did you check the computer for CODES ?. Look at my past answers to others to see how to obtain the codes from the computer and tell me what code or codes you get.

FIRST, CLEAR (erase) ALL the codes from the computers via the climate control panel and then see which codes return as history or current.

Disconnecting the battery will NOT erase the codes.



As each code displays you will see the word HISTORY or CURRENT display with each code. I need to know which codes are history and which codes are current.
