Cadillac Repair: electrial, automatic door locks, cigarette lighter

Question
I have a 2000 Esclade my interior lights and automatic door locks quit working.Every time i put a new fuse in and hit the door locks it blows again.I disconnected the door locks and it still happens. Any ideas

Answer
Hi Doyle,

This is one of those problems that you will need a wiring diagram to see what is on that fuse so that things can be unplugged. If you have narrowed it down to an area on the wiring diagram then you can either cut the wire at both ends and string a new wire if it is a wiring problem, find the bad wire and repair it or replace a door lock actuator that is defective if that is what it turns out to be. If the truck was worked on recently then looking in those areas would be a good thing to do and might find the problem. Sometimes a cigarette lighter is also on that circuit and you might find something metal in the socket.

Sorry there isn't a simple answer. A good wiring diagram from the Caddy Escallade shop manual or a subscription to alldata.com would help at this point. Bill
