Cadillac Repair: 1999 Eldorado height sensor, rear shocks, little boxes

Question
QUESTION: I have a Eldorado touring coupe. It has a sensor on each tire. The rear shocks will not pump up. I'm confident the shocks are good. Also the pump is good, it runs for a few seconds then stops. I believe one of the height sensors is bad. There is air lines to the shocks. How do I determine which sensor is bad?

ANSWER: Do or do you NOT have road sensing suspension on the vehicle also ?.

IS or HAS the CHECK ENGINE light ever illuminated on the dash when you were driving the vehicle ?. If YES, You need to retrieve the fault CODES from the computer via the climate control panel.

QUESTION: If you mean by road sensing theres wires coming from the shocks, yes. There is wires to the shocks. No, I've never had a code, but, I just purchased the vehicle and pretty much just drove it home. Thats when I noticed the ass end jumping around when I hit bumps. I did pull the codes, but nothing on the suspension. All the codes were history codes.

ANSWER: If there was a fault in the height sensor you would notice that the back end of the vehicle was LOWER or HIGHER than the front end . In otherwords it would NOT sit level.

You can test the height sensor by climbing under the vehicle and removing the height sensor rod from the height sensor that looks like about a 4" square black box with a round multi-wire electrical harness attached to it. Unsnap the metal rod of the height sensor at the top end of the rod and with the ignition key ON, Engine OFF manually move this rod up and down and wait 2 to 3 minutes for it to respond and see if the shocks inflate and deflateIf you have little boxes attached to each 4 shocks/struts this would indicate that you HAVE road sensing suspension and the only way to diagnose which box (sensor) is faulty is by checking for codes in the computer via the climate control panel. Firtst ERASE all the history codes and see if any come back as history or current.

QUESTION: Correct, the rear end is lower than the front. I did test the drivers side rear sensor(when I thought there was only one)the way you suggested, and the pump ran for about three seconds. The rear shocks are completely out of air. When the pump comes on there is air coming from the pump. How do I clear the codes?

Answer
When you move the HEIGHT SENSOR arm do the rear shocks fill with air and then if you move the height sensor arm in the opposite direction does the shocks deflate. If they DO, Replace the height sensor. If you have NO CHECK ENGINE light illuminating on the dash, There are no CODES to erase.
